Let's toast to St. Patrick's Day with a nice cup of tea.
In honor of being sober this year on St. Patrick's Day, I wanted to make a blog about how crazy it can get if you decide to go out partying tonight to have that green beer with your friends. Listen, I don't have anything against you if you drink. I was right there with you last year. I think I had so much green beer that my pee was green for a month. LOL. If you drink and drive, then I don't really like you though. I am SOOoooooo lucky I never killed an innocent person the many times that I drank and drove. And I will tell you that you DON'T want to have to attend a MADD class "court ordered" because you get arrested for a DWI like I did. Listening to the stories of hundreds of people who lost loved ones because someone wanted to drink and drive Isn't easy, but a REAL EYE OPENER!
So in saying that, let's dive right in. I live on the very corner in a small SE Kansas town and very close to the Missouri state line near Joplin, Missouri. And just last night alone, the police there were arresting people left and right for drunk drivers. There was even a high speed pursuit of someone fleeing from police trying to get away from getting caught. And do you want to know the dumbest part? This guy was in a company truck running from law enforcement! Come on guy, that's DUMB!
There was never any holiday I never wanted to NOT drink. Maybe Easter, but that mostly depended on who I was spending that day with. Drinking alcohol was just part of my life, and if anyone didn't include alcohol I didn't even want to be there.
So, with all that said let's begin.
Here is an example and I'll use Michigan to show you some statistics. Just in Michigan ALONE, according to the Department of Public Safety, there were 438 impaired driving arrests during last year’s St. Patrick’s Day weekend. During that time frame, there have also been 10 deaths in the last five years. So in knowing that can you imagine how many people are on the roads driving drunk in all the states put together? People out being selfish and idiotic because they care more about themselves than killing an innocent person over hanging with friends and partying. Just think about it.
And if you don't care about others'safety because you want to drink and drive, then I pray you will get arrested. I CAN say these things because I used to be that idiotic fool.
On the Kansas- DUI website, last year 1,439 cars were stopped the night of St. Patrick's Day. There were 37 DUI arrests! (plus they found an illegal alien). But the illegal alien subject is a whole other subject I don't think this is the place to talk about because I do agree with deporting illegals. So that's the only 37 people that they did find driving drunk. How about the ones they didn't catch. It's a miracle more people aren't dying from these idiots!
If you want to party with your friends this year or even alone, there are MANY ways to be safe and to keep others safe on the road.
~ Have a designated driver!
~ Call an UBER!
~ Call a Taxi!
~ How about staying home and having a get together and taking everyone's car keys for the night.
Let's be smart friends. Do you want to wake up everyday the rest of your life knowing that you have taken away someones child or loved one due to drunk driving? Or even killing yourself? You do have a purpose in this world and if you do struggle with putting that bottle down, I totally understand what you're going through!
